When a new Parallels Desktop VM is created, the potential size of the virtual hard drive is set to 255 GB by default. This is the most important fact about a Parallels Desktop virtual hard drive: it has a large potential size, but it takes up less space on your Mac, and its actual size can grow or shrink.
